About the School

Dance as a form of art, expression, social interaction, and a means of expression is enjoyed by all individuals worldwide, independent of age.  The social, cultural, aesthetical, technical, and moral contexts affect and play a significant role in defining what dance is.  What is true though, is that dance is used in all societies in different forms from the ancient years and has educational, therapeutic, and social value.

The aim of the Central Dance School is to bring together the young people who are interested in dance and to form their aesthetic by cultivating the body, the mind, and the soul.  The Central Dance School aims to promote the personal and social development of the youngsters through dance.  The values of cooperation, teamwork, perseverance, respect, volunteerism and many more are being promoted through the daily interaction of the individuals with the dance activities and via the preparations for participation in events and shows that the school organizes.  At the school students not only learn the technique of each dance, but they are also encouraged to adopt a lifestyle that incorporates this form of art into their lives.

At the same time, the school tries to keep alive the passion of the young individuals who love dance and have the required abilities to get involved with dance in a professional level.  The youngsters who wish so, are prepared appropriately to be accepted into higher institutions and universities.  It is being an honor for the school when its students attend well known universities abroad and participate in dance companies with famous dancers and choreographers.

The school prepares once or twice a year shows where the students are called to show the work that they have been preparing throughout the year, which are characterized by high quality, strength and a quality of presentation on behalf of the students both at the classical repertoire, as well as to the different choreographic approaches of it.  The originality of those events and the excellent performance of the students of the school has made the school well-known throughout the years.

The school was established in 1996 by the dance teacher and choreographer Elena Maxouti.
